For long there had been a desire among (concerned) members of the online community to have an ezine pertaining to the Northeast.Northeast Vigil was launched on July 18, 1999 as a weekly ezine intending to do precisely that. Northeast Vigil was meant to be a forum. Northeast Vigil was meant to collate news items and articles on the Northeast to be distributed among its readers. Information about/on the Northeast is always difficult to come by - Northeast Vigil wants to fill in that gap. Information was huge in terms of quantity too. Mailboxes of our readers were getting clogged. Hence, we decided to transform Northeast Vigil into a fortnightly webzine with update notifications being sent out to readers as and when the site is updated every 1st and 16th of a month. Northeast Vigil is a essentially a mediawatch cyberzine. It does not have the wherewithal to convert itself into a regular zine of its own. Moreover, the need of a mediawatch forum too is felt by many. Hence, the introduction of the "Mediawatch" column here. Disinformation and lack of information irks all those who are from the Northeast or feel about it. The "Mediawatch" column is a forum for such like-minded people. Subir Ghosh February 6, 2000. |
